Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Serves as chauffeur in the motor pool to handle different types of trips, such as making courier and shuttle runs, or driving a principal officer, Embassy official, or a high-level visitor. Includes driving on errands, delivering documents or messages, etc. Assists in handling baggage or light cargo up to 20 kg per bag. Responsible at all times for the safety and security of the passengers and the proper use of the vehicle.
Cares for vehicle, including especially inside and outside cleaning whenever needed.
Reviews basic mechanical condition of vehicle, level of oil, radiator water, air in tires, etc. before taking vehicle out onto road. Makes sure all required documents are in glove compartment—insurance record, insurance accident report forms, etc.
Reports problems in mechanical condition of vehicle with enough accurate detail that fleet manager can quickly determine source of problem.
Maintains vehicle logs to show passengers and their respective agency and mileage.
May be required to work shift schedules and drive per needs of the motor pool.
Education: Secondary/High School diploma.
Experience: Minimum two years’ experience as a chauffeur or as a driver in commerce, public transportation, or similar. Must have a perfect driving record.
Language Skills: Speaking, reading, and writing: good working knowledge (level III) in English, working knowledge (level II) in French and Dutch.
Job Knowledge: Close familiarity with Brussels area and general familiarity with roads throughout Belgium. Elementary knowledge of auto mechanics, safety and maintenance procedures. Knowledge of traffic code, emergency procedures in case of accidents, map reading, use of GPS, etc.
Skills and Abilities: Ability to drive safely at all times not only sedans but most Embassy vehicles (License C required – copy of driver’s license must be attached to application). Ability to use two-way radio and GSM correctly and with fluent English pronunciation. Ability to remain cheerful and pleasant with all passengers, regardless of late hours or fatigue. Ability to be discreet and not repeat overheard passenger conversations. Ability to pass annual medical chauffeur examination in accordance with Belgian law. Must maintain a neat personal appearance at all times.
