The client is looking for a Retail & Operations Manager, to firstly take up the transfer of his stores from incumbents in Belgium.

Client Details

The client is a leading retailer of Books products in the city centre, transport locations and via the internet. Originally Britain, they are expanding fastly across Europe.


The Retail & Operations Manager will be in charge of the following tasks:

  • Managing and motivating the team to increase sales and ensure efficiency;
  • Managing stock levels and making key decisions about stock control;
  • Analysing sales figures and forecasting future sales volumes to maximise profits;
  • Analysing and interpreting trends to facilitate planning;
  • Using information technology to record sales figures, for data analysis and forward planning;
  • Dealing with staffing issues such as interviewing potential staff, conducting appraisals and performance reviews, as well as providing or organising training and development;
  • Ensuring standards for quality, customer service and health and safety are met;
  • Resolving health and safety, legal, fiscal and security issues;
  • Responding to customer complaints and comments;
  • Promoting the organisation locally by liaising with local schools, newspapers and the community in general;
  • Organising special promotions, displays and events;
  • Attending and chairing meetings, representing the company in Belgium;
  • Updating colleagues on business performance, new initiatives and other pertinent issues;
  • Touring the sales floor regularly, talking to colleagues and customers, and identifying or resolving urgent issues;
  • Maintaining awareness of market trends in the retail industry, understanding forthcoming customer initiatives and monitoring what local competitors are doing;
  • Initiating changes to improve the business, e.g. revising opening hours to ensure the store can compete effectively in the local market;
  • Managing staff pay and social declarations for Belgium


  • At least five years experience in a general management role in retail management
  • Must have good knowledge of Belgium employment, tax and fiscal law
  • Needs to possess excellent leadership qualities and the ability to be assertive when required but must also be able to work effectively and maturely as part of a management team.
  • Needs to possess energy, drive and enthusiasm and should be a natural motivator
  • Should understand and be committed to the role of Team Manager, and should particularly recognise and respond to the training potential it offers
  • Should have good organisational and analytical skills, and be able to offer sound and reasoned judgement
  • Fluent in English, French and Dutch

Job Offer

Th salary package will depend on the experience of the candidate and is around 65K
