High level Head of Credit position within a prestigious Belgian Private Banking

Belgian Private Bank, with headquarters in Brussels


The purpose of the function is to eloborate business plan and maximizing the overall quality of the credit portfolio and credit profitability within the capital risk limitations of the Bank.

The Head of credit has to implement and monitor the group/local credit policies, procedures and practices that strategically support the Bank's risk objectives.

Furthermore, the Head of Credit is dedicated to develop solutions that meet client needs, coupled with adherence to the Bank's credit risk appetite framework and application of sound credit practices.

Organisation of credit activities at each level of the credit process (negotiation, analysis, preparation and control of documents for submission to local and group Credit Committees, Monitoring repayments, extensions, renegotiation, problems, restructuring or credits repayment). Participates to these group and local credit and risk committees and provides specialist advice and input

Responsible for the overall management of the Credit Department, including the credit review analysis process, and all functions providing lending support, direction, credit information, and credit policies, and procedures

Performs direct supervisory duties of department staff, and coordinates staff for coverage in all related areas of the department

Provides advice and assistance to direct reports on product structuring and credit decisions and coaches them to continuously upgrade their competencies in the credit field

Completion of the Annual Financial Budget, declined both in terms of credit volume and margins applied

Works directly with the Private Banking teams to facilitate the origination of new loans in addition to improving the Bank's loan portfolio credit quality, to develop credit structures that meet client needs in the most efficient and effective manner, optimizing use of the bank's capital and other resources

Works closely with private bankers, Credit Risk and other organizational leaders across the group to determine and refine credit risk appetite of the Bank

Participates on behalf of the Bank in group-wide projects including those relating to risk, credit, and client issues

Ensures that the proper credit analysis has been completed; all risks have been identified and mitigated; all appropriate Policy, Guidelines & Procedures have been addressed; all policy exceptions have been identified and approved; and that the credit fits within the bank's risk profile and the business unit's credit risk appetite framework


The successful applicant should demonstrate:

- An in-depth level of credit knowledge and skills and a working level of portfolio management knowledge and skills
- Credit evaluation experience with complex credits and structuring
- Master's degree in Finance, economics or alike; MBA preferred
- At least 8 years of experience in a senior credit management role

- A strong experience in Relationship Management
- An extensive credit and risk management expertise, analytical skills, and understanding of how to mitigate risks with a good understanding of Private Banking Lending Environment (Lombard, Mortgage,…)
- Strong understanding of High- and Ultra-High Net Worth markets
- Strong leadership skills
- Strong client service orientation, negotiation, organization and planning skills
- Knowledge of and ability to execute Risk Management practices and strategies
