For over 50 years, we have been campaigning for human rights wherever justice, freedom and truth are denied. We have reshaped policies, challenged governments and taken corporations to task. In doing so, we have changed thousands of lives for the better. Join Amnesty International Belgique francophone in Brussels and you will too.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As an Advocacy Officer, you will be responsible for the definition and implementation of Amnesty's political advocacy strategy for the respect of human rights in Belgium’s policies.
To do so, you will make political advocacy an efficient tool for achieving the campaign objectives set by the French-speaking Belgian section and the international movement. Advocacy will target federal and/or regional governments as well as Belgian representatives on international bodies (UN, Council of Europe, European Union, etc.).
With your knowledge of political decision-making mechanisms and processes, you will help strengthen the capacity, efficiency and impact of the section's work at the political level.
You will also increase the impact of various Amnesty International’s campaigns by concluding strategic partnerships with key players in the sector.
You will participate in the team's activities and reflections on Amnesty's information, advocacy and campaign strategies and will carry out your mission in specific working groups.
A natural collaborator, you need to show influential communication skills, impartial political judgement, coupled with strong strategic thinking. You have excellent written and verbal French and English. A good grasp of spoken and written Dutch is desirable.
You understand the strategy, methodologies and tactics necessary to achieve political impact, and you have a good knowledge of Belgian and European legislations relevant to Amnesty International’s mission.
With experience of working on human rights issues, you have in-depth knowledge of the socio-political context in Belgium.
Amnesty International is a global movement of more than 7 million people who campaign for a world where human rights are enjoyed by all. We reach almost every country in the world.
Our aim is simple : an end to human rights abuses. Independent, international and influential, we campaign for justice, fairness, freedom and truth wherever they are denied. And whether we are applying pressure through powerful research or direct lobbying, mass demonstrations or online campaigning, we are all inspired by hope for a better world. One where human rights are respected and protected by everyone, everywhere.
The staff team of Amnesty International Belgique francophone is composed of 28 motivated people. The team’s working language is French, but English and Dutch are necessary.
Benefits include more than 35 days annual leave (inclusive of public holidays), pension scheme, hospital insurance (DKV), lunch vouchers (8€/day), and other benefits such teleworking, flexible hours, etc. All of this, in a professional, engaging environment.
WHAT WE HOPE YOU WILL DO NEXT
If you are talented, serious about human rights and want to use your skills, knowledge and experience to change the world then we encourage you to send us your motivation letter and your curriculum vitae in French before the 31st of January to firstname.lastname@example.org with “Advocacy Officer” in the subject of your email.
Freedom, Justice, Equality. Let's get to work.
