Bid & Project Manager

We are seeking: bids and projects – experience in the field of Defence or OEM – trained engineers – FR/ENG – worldwide.

Our client, Thales Belgium SA, the Group’s Belgian branch, has 2 operational sites, located in Tubize (near Brussels) and Herstal (near Liège) respectively.

The Tubize site, which employs 130 people, is one of the Group’s skills centres and specialises in design, development and procurement of information systems critical to all kinds of platforms for use by clients in the Defence, Security, Aeronautics and Transport sectors.

The Herstal site, which employs over 60 people, specialises in design, development, production and procurement of weapons systems for helicopters and aircraft for use by clients in the Defence (MoD) and Aeronautics (OEM) sectors. The entity is one of the world’s key players in the field of airborne weapons systems: it is currently developing a metric precision-guided rocket.

As a result of retirement, Thales Belgium SA (formerly Forges de Zeebrugge - Herstal site) is now in search of a (M/F):

Bid & Project Manager

Role

As a member of the Bid & Project team, you participate in bids and projects, throughout the life cycle of the entity’s projects to ensure satisfaction amongst the different stakeholders.

During the bidding phase:

  • You contribute towards preparing the bid and provide your help and support in negotiating the bid with the client:
  • You define initial project referencing based on a solution and structure, viable in terms of the client’s requirements, strategy and rules applicable to the entity.
  • You produce and approve the bid based on the stakeholders’ commitment, managing the forthcoming project’s risks and opportunities.
  • You define key delivery and acceptance milestones, consolidate costs and approve the overall project referencing during the bidding phase.
  • You ensure a smooth transition from the bid to the project and contribute towards preparing, organising and approving the project launch.

During the project phase:

  • You are the single point of contact for clients, subcontractors and teams dedicated internally.

  • You coordinate and ensure that project tasks which are entrusted to your team are completed in technical, industrial, financial, contractual, resources terms, etc.:
  • You ensure that contractual requirements are met in full (both in terms of clients and subcontractors), observing budgets, quality and set timing.
  • You model, track and improve on the programme’s financial results, identifying solutions, in conjunction with each department concerned with the project.
  • You manage risks and opportunities.
  • You ensure product safety and compliance with standards and regulations.
  • You manage efficient project termination (document archiving, cancellation of spending permits), capitalising on and sharing experience gained.

Profile

  • You are a trained engineer.
  • You have at least 5 years’ experience in managing bids and projects/programmes, internal and external, in a technically demanding environment, preferably an international one.
  • Knowledge of the Defence or OEM sector is a plus.
  • You are used to working according to particular project management methods.
  • You can consolidate on your experience managing bids, contracts and risks, and managing customer and subcontractor relations.
  • Stress-resistant, you are rigorous, analytical and extremely co-operative, yet fully appreciate the aim: client satisfaction.
  • You are acknowledged for your leadership and you find it easy to federate your team around your projects.
  • You are fluent in English and French.
  • You are at ease when writing technical documents.
  • You are willing to travel worldwide on a regular basis.
