Financial Controller - Brussels

Robert Half is currently looking for a (m/f) Financial Controller for one of our clients based in Brussels.

Our client is a market leader in insurance located in Brussels.

As Financial Controller you will be responsible for:

Mission and objectives:

• Support the Finance functions (CFO and Finance Manager) in:
• Performing its tasks regarding Controlling and Reporting;
• Performing its tasks related to the shareholder;
• Performing its tasks related to Governance;
• Participation in key strategic projects within the company as representative of the Finance function;

Tasks:

• Financial statement closing process and financial reporting (LGAAP, IFRS & Solvency II):
• Review financial reporting to Executive Management / Board of Directors / Shareholders / Supervisory authorities;
• Prepare quarterly and yearly closing + determine monthly recordings for an accurate budget follow-up;
• Follow-up on provisions;
• Consolidate inputs from different departments (risk, accounting, HR…);
• Implementation of the Solvency II reporting processes in the finance department;
• Execution and documentation of internal controls related to the Solvency II reporting processes;
• Governance:
• Maintain good relationships with key control functions (internal audit, Risk Management…) and single point of contact for the external auditor;
• Perform internal controls related to the closing and reporting processes and resolve ICS topics;
• Strategic projects:
• Active participation in ad hoc projects;
• Documentation and updating of internal procedures;
• Optimize operational Finance processes;
• Forecast, Plan and Budget:
• Budget (<1-year) preparation and forecasting (1-year)/planning (5-years) activities;
• Monitor financial KPI's on a monthly basis + YTD budget to actuals follow-up;
• Function as backup for other Finance department members

You will work closely together with the Finance colleagues as well as with our Risk department. You report directly to the Finance Manager. In some occasions, you report directly to the CFO.

The required profile for the Financial Controller position:

• Master's degree in Economics or Finance or equivalent;
• You have a proven 3-5 year experience in Controlling, Finance or Financial Audit;
• A first experience within the Insurance sector is a plus;
• A sound knowledge of Excel (macro-skills are a plus) is the minimum;
• Dutch or French speaking and passive knowledge of the other language with a good knowledge of English;
• You have excellent analytical skills and a high level of independence and critical spirit;
• You deliver qualitative work with respect of deadlines;
• You are flexible in your personal organization and capable to change priorities quickly and identify the highest priorities.
