Full time position

MPG designs and implements comparative research and projects with stakeholders on comprehensive migrant integration and diversity. This work largely focuses on comparisons of policies and practices at national, regional and local level, monitoring compliance with international/EU legal standards and analysis of the impact of policies on integration outcomes.

The main upcoming project in MPG’s applied research is SPRING, a multiannual Horizon2020 project which will develop a toolbox for communities of practices working on integration. It will support practitioners in identifying and accessing validated information on sustainable practices of integration, including information on their impacts and transferability. The project aims to empower practitioners to implement high-quality measures and policies; to better cooperate in (transnational) networks and to influence integration policy-making at various levels.

MPG’s engagement in SPRING is a next step to expand its role as a key European-wide convenor of integration actors and facilitator of know-how exchange. Working on SPRING as MPG’s project leader will mean to engage with actors from civil society organisations, public authorities and services, voluntary initiatives, the private sector, etc. The specific tasks of the policy analyst in the SPRING project will relate to the development of the validation grid based on criteria for good practices, as well as the analysis of transferability, adaptation and upscaling. Other assignments of the policy analyst will relate to projects on comparative research of refugee integration policies (NIEM, AMIF project) and on integration policies for small/medium-sized towns and rural areas (Whole-Comm, H2020 project).

MPG integration policy analyst: Key responsibilities

Coordinating international research

• Coordinating research projects, including collaborating with partners, identifying experts, designing questionnaires, convening meetings, preparing agendas with supporting documentation as well as reporting
• Proposing, developing and fundraising for new research projects on integration laws and policies at European, national, and local level as well as their impacts on immigration and integration outcomes
• Management of project implementation (narrative and financial reporting, budget monitoring)

Conducting international research

• Using and creating international harmonised datasets from a wide variety of sources including government, statistical institutes, expert networks, academia, non-governmental organisations, media, internet, etc.
• Analysing, writing, and presenting comparative results in an accurate and accessible way in the appropriate format (publications, trainings, blogs, public speaking)
• Collaborating in the design and use of the research (e.g. policy conclusions and advice) with a wide variety of policymakers and stakeholders

Working with MPG team

• Work with other MPG staff on common projects
• Collaborating with a wide variety of actors in the implementation of MPG’s programme
• Other research or networking tasks as requested

Person Specification – Policy analyst on Migration and Integration 

Skills, knowledge, experience

Essential

• Masters’ or PhD degree, preferably in political science or sociology
• At least 3 years’ additional experience in applied research on migration or integration
• Comprehensive knowledge of migration and integration policies and processes
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to gather, compare, and summarise complex information
• Excellent writing skills, with the ability to present information and arguments in an articulate and persuasive manner in English (native speaker level)
• Strong public speaking skills
• Proven ability to autonomously lead project implementation including reporting cycle and budget monitoring (project and financial management)
• Creativity and entrepreneurship to design/fundraise projects and work with different experts and stakeholders

Desirable

• Experience in working with, or advising, integration stakeholders at local, regional or national level
• Strategic thinking for solution-oriented policy development / organisational change
• Knowledge of EU migration and integration policies
• Previous use of international migration datasets & skills with statistical analysis
