Our client is a family-owned brokerage firm (Société de bourse/beurs vennotschap) specialized in Asset Management and Private Banking, operating on the south of Belgium.

Description

Our client is looking for a Chief Risk Officer (CRO), that will be a member of the Board of Directors and of the executive team of the company.

He should be either a certified compliance officer or approved by NBB with a Fit & Proper validation.

Ideally, the candidate will handle the functional responsibility of CRO, CCO and AMLCO

Mission

The CRO role is an independent function at executive level with a transversal focus on applying risk and control framework as well as respecting internal procedures and policies to protect the reputation and integrity of the company.

It will include operational risk management, compliance, and anti-money laundering.

The function includes the following responsibilities:

-Develop expertise to provide appropriate advice and guidance on regulatory aspects affecting investment services and activities as well as additional services (MiFID, market abuse, anti-money laundering and governance). There is a specific focus on conflicts of interests.

-Assume the role of point of contact for the compliance team towards external counterparts and regulators

-Update Risk Management Process and supporting policies and procedures and ensure regulatory and legal watch

-Monitor the conformity of the services offered by the firm

-Carry out risk and regulatory monitoring by integrating new features and updates into projects monitoring (COSO, AML, conflicts of interest, Market Abuse, MiFID, Governance) as well as writing control reports.

-Lead specific Operational Risk Missions

-Identify and update compliance risks via compliance risk mapping

-Report critical issues to the various entities concerned (Management Committee, Audit and Risk Committee, Board of Directors and Prudential Committee)

- Ensure appropriate monitoring and review of market, liquidity, and operational risks

- Ensure adequate monitoring of investment eligibility, compliance with investment guidelines, KYC

- Create and deliver risk management reports, internally and for regulators as well (BNB and FSMA)

- Follow-up with compliance for Monitoring Process and supporting policies and procedures

- Complementary responsibilities as a co- COO (administration, secretariat general, oversight of subcontractors)

Profile

The candidate should demonstrate:

- A Master's in law, economics or alike

- A Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience

- A previous experience in ORM with a strong knowledge of Belgian legislation and regulations relating to investment services and activities (MiFID, Conflict of interest, AML, Governance)

- Certified Compliance officer or Fit & Propper by NBB

- A previous experience with capital market, securities or Private Banking will be a plus

- A previous experience in Management committee or Board of Directors will be appreciated as a strategic thinker

- Fluent in French and English, Dutch is a nice to have
